Photos: A Walk On the Ravenswood Trail

The trail near Dumbarton Bridge, which is a part of the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge, provides visual treats for hikers, bird watchers, and photographers.

On Saturday morning U.S. Fish and Wildlife Ranger Jennifer Heroux led a group of about a dozen people on a 3.75 loop trail hike on the Ravenswood Trail, on the west side of the Dumbarton Bridge.  This hike is a part of the Refuge Rambler club hikes.

The dirt trail is the top of a reinforced levee that separates ponds from the open waters of San Francisco Bay. Views as far as the San Mateo Bridge are possible from the trail.

Birdwatchers were able to spot many American Avocets, which make their nest on islands in the ponds.  The salt marsh is very popular with birds and bird watchers in the winter.

The one and one half hour hike began cool and windy and ended warm and calm.
