Foothill College and the Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club put on "The Learning Curve" bike race to raise money and promote bicycles paths on campus.

Cyclists came from all around the Bay Area on Sunday to compete in Foothill College's first annual benefit race called "The Learning Curve."

More than 400 cyclists competed in 10 different races on Foothill Loop Road.

The event accommodated every type of race, from beginners to elite cyclists, in races from 25 minutes to an hour long. It was a challenging ride, even for some of the more experienced riders.

When asked what the course was like, an-out-of-breath Page Robertson, a top competitor in women's cycling, managed one word: "Hilly."

Brenda Davis-Visas of Foothill College teamed up with the Los Gatos Bicycle Racing Club (LGBRC) to help put on this event, which will be held annually.

LGBRC has organized the Cat's Hill Classic Bicycle Race for 38 years, so Davis-Visas said she decided to tap into the club to help sponsor The Learning Curve at Foothill College.

LGBRC President Barry Gordon said he used to participate in races around Foothill College 30 years ago. The money raised by the races will be used to make multi-use paths for joggers and cyclists around the campus, Davis-Visas said.
