Party Trained Dogs Clean Up

Winners of the Menlo Park Block Party dog contests announced.

The Video Contest:

While high fives are an all-American way of responding enthusiastically, these days having international appeal will get you everywhere.

Patch invited canines to perform tricks for us during last week’s .  We them, published them on Patch, and invited you to comment on them, American Idol style, to help us determine which one was the most awesome.

Some pups did paw high-fives.  Some just rolled over.  But the one that won us over was Carly, the multilingual golden retriever.  Sandy, her owner, enticed her to do things in Spanish, even going so far as to clarify what the treat was when Carly just sniffed at it.

“Es pollo,” Sandy told Carly.

Carly not only understands multiple languages but she also does volunteer work at the Lucile Packard Children’s Hosiptal too.

Congrats to Sandy and Carly! You’ve won a dog bath from the .  Email vanessa@patch.com to find out how to claim your prize.

The Photo Contest:

Initially between a camo-wearing canine and Oregon Trail Oscar. But after we read this comment, the votes were tipped in Oscar’s favor.

“Oscar gets the nod because he looks just like the Mogwai from Gremlins,” said Mat, who did not leave his last name.  While some may think that’s not the nicest comparison to make, we think Mogwai AND Oscar are adorable.

Oscar has been rolling around in a wheelchair that has a custom-made, Oregon Trail style wagon cover on it for about 10 years now.  (He slipped a disc in his back on Halloween and lost the use of his hind legs.)  He's been cruising from town to town, rocking dog parades like he was made for the spotlight.
