A memorial service will be held Friday in San Mateo for a 19-year-old Menlo Park woman who was in East Palo Alto.
The service for Cate Fisher will begin at 11 a.m. this Friday at the , located at 1700 Alameda De Las Pulgas. A reception at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center, located at 700 Alma Street in Menlo Park, will follow at 1 p.m.
According to police, at about 2:12 a.m. on July 13, Fisher was sitting in a white Chevy Tahoe with two other people on the 2500 block of Annapolis Street in East Palo Alto when someone walked or drove up to the vehicle and shot her. She was taken to Stanford Hospital where she died of her injuries.
The two others in the vehicle were not harmed. Police say they do not know of a motive for the shooting, or whether it was a case of mistaken identity.
Fisher, a gymnast, had taught gymnastics in for about three years, including preschool, recreation and pro-team classes.
Fisher’s family is asking those attending the service or reception not to wear black clothing. They would prefer that bright colors be worn, such as pink, which was her favorite color. Also, in lieu of flowers the family is encouraging people to make a donation to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation in Fisher’s name.
