Three people are dead.

Three people were killed in a pulled-over car that was struck by a passing vehicle on northbound Interstate Highway 280 in unincorporated San Mateo County north of Menlo Park this afternoon, a California Highway Patrol officer said.

A Lexus sedan was stopped at the center divide just north of Edgewood Road when it was struck by a black Volkswagen that swerved into the center divide around 3:10 p.m., CHP Officer Art Montiel said.

Three people in the Lexus were pronounced dead at the scene, while the Volkswagen's driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Montiel said. Montiel said the Volkswagen driver will be arrested upon his release from the hospital on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.
