Eco-Champions Honored

Drive Less Challenge victors celebrated in Menlo Park.

The Drive Less Challenge participants and organizers gathered in Menlo Park Sunday to celebrate a collective reduction in the carbon emissions released into the atmosphere.

Nine of these eco-minded commuters shot the breeze in the  about different bicycles, routes and gear while they waited to hear who won the 2012 Drive Less Challenge. 500 people took part in the challenge that encouraged travelers to take alternative modes of transportation; participants came came from 9 different  cities. 

In total, they embarked on 41,000 green miles, which is twice around the globe. Collectively, their efforts prevented 24,000 lbs of CO2 emission from being spewed into the atmosphere.

Biking - Rich Hill with 340 green miles 

Small Electric Car - Ain Indermitte of Morgan Hill with 6 green miles 

Bus - Guy of Morgan Hill with 348 green miles 

Train - Doug Tai of Palo Alto with 600 green miles

Carpool - Krishnapriyan of Cupertino with 775 green miles

Electric Car - Doug Hahn of Los Altos with 135 green miles 

Most Green Trips - Michael Kupfer of Mountain View with 80 green trips 

Most Green Shopping Trips - Kimberly Beck of Los Altos with 30 green shopping trips 

Greenest Travel - Lawrence of Palo Alto with no CO2

Most Improved - John McBirney of Los Altos with 100% improvement
