Caltrains Stopped After Fatal Impact

Emergency personnel en route to Burlingame.

A person was struck and killed by a Caltrain on the tracks in Burlingame today, an agency spokeswoman said.

Northbound Caltrain No. 143 struck the person at about 12:23 p.m. on the right-of-way at Peninsula Avenue, Caltrain spokeswoman Christine Dunn said.

About 900 were on board the train. The train left the Tamien station in San Jose at 11:10 a.m. and was scheduled to arrive at the Burlingame station at 12:08 p.m. It was a local train, stopping at all stations.

Emergency personnel were en route to the scene as of 12:40 p.m. Efforts were also underway to transfer the passengers to another train.
