Belle Haven Neighbors Make Space for New Future

The Belle Haven Community Foundation is planning to create a sense of cohesion in East Menlo Park.

Belle Haven Community Foundation volunteers cleaned up a building Saturday as part of an initiative to make East Menlo Park a better place to live.

"This is the beginning of a new program founded by Carolyn Clarke that's designed to give Belle Haven a sense of unity and a voice in Menlo Park," said Eva Cuffy, co organizer.

Volunteers from the neighborhood joined forces to tidy up a building temporarily donated by Ron Adachi, principal at Greenheart Land Company. Adachi purchased the land a few years ago, and is letting The Foundation use it as a meeting space for about a year while he makes plans to develop the property, according to Clarke.

"Those girls were awesome," said Carolyn Clarke about the neighborhood girls who helped that day.  "I've never seek kids clean like that," Clarke said.

The unfunded foundation is in the very early stages of formation and plans to hold housing fairs, community activities, and more.

"We're very excited about having a presence in the neighborhood," Clarke said. "We want people to have ownership of the community," she said of The Foundation's mission.

The Foundation has a meeting tentatively scheduled for May 14 at 767 Hamilton Avenue in Menlo Park, Calif.
