Dress Rehearsal Foretells Powerful “Elijah”

Masterworks Chorale launches its 50th anniversary season with a signature concert this weekend at Woodside High School, featuring a grand orchestra and acclaimed soloists, with Kirk Eichelberger as “Elijah."

Celebrating its 50th Anniversary Year, Masterworks Chorale pulled out all the stops in creating its masterful production of Mendelssohn’s “Elijah”, the most magnificent Oratorio of the 19th Century, exploring the depths of human emotion.

The electric dress rehearsal last night astounded the 101 singers of the Chorale, enchanted by nationally known soloists including:

  • Baritone Kirk Eichelberger, famous in the role of “Elijah”
  • Soprano Fatinah Tilfah, as The Widow, a role written for Jenny Lind
  • Mezzo-soprano Michelle Rice, as The Angel, yet also Jezebel
  • Tenor Brian Thorsett, as Obadiah
  • Tenor Norman DeVol, as the evil Ahab

...with special guests Noah Gordon (Saturday) and Niles Tilenius (Sunday) of The Ragazzi Boys Chorus in the role of the youthful Lookout.

Thirty-six professional musicians form the Masterworks Orchestra, completing the emotionally compelling sweep of this epic story and its captivating harmonies.

Masterworks Chorale's “Elijah”:

Saturday November 9 at 8 p.m.

Sunday November 10 at 4 p.m.

Ample free parking. 

Tickets are $25 at www. Masterworks.org, or $30 at the door.

Students are $10 either time.

This is the concert of the decade, and the first time in 50 years Masterworks has produced this dramatic work.
